The purpose of the Level 3 Qualification Fire Door Inspection Course is to allow learners to demonstrate that they are capable of carrying out fire door inspections and have the under-pinning knowledge needed, at the required depth and to confirm occupational competence.

These qualifications are aimed at those who intend to carry out fire door inspections as ‘competent persons’. Specifically designed to enable learners to demonstrate their ability to undertake this work, these qualifications are suitable for both in-house fire risk assessors and independent consultants

Level 3 Qualification Fire Door Inspection Course will be taught by Chris Sharman Head of Technical and Training, alongside a skilled workforce who install passive fire protection daily.

Setting the industry standard

The framework for the course has been put together by passive fire safety experts, the Global HSE Group. Led by Ross O’Loughlin, the Director of Global Technical Services and previously the Chief of Staff of the fire training MOD school, and written by Nigel Craven, who was the Group Manager at West Yorkshire Fire Service.

Systems Approach to Training


Global Academy course structure

1. Pre-Learning Study

Learn or refresh the basics about fire safety in your own time. Complete a pre-course portfolio which is submitted before the 3-day course.

4. Apply Knowledge and Certification

Partaking in a practical test, once completed gaining industry-recognised certification and becoming a suitably qualified experienced person in installing passive fire protection.

2. Input and Training

Understand how passive fire products work and how to implement them. Real-life examples, presentations and health and safety knowledge. 

3. Practical practice and experience

Get your hands dirty at our new training facility, where you will gain practical experience and feedback.

What certification do I receive once completion?

After completing the pre-learning material and passing the practical test, you will receive your results on the day. If you fail the practical, you can re-take the next day. 

Once achieving a pass you will receive ABBE Level 3 Award in Understanding and Installing Fire Doors certification to your registered address directly from ABBE.

What prior-knowledge do I need?

To undertake this course you will require basic joinery experience and know how to use tools of the trade. 

Is the course online?

The pre-course portfolio will require you to answer digitally and require learning by accessing online resources. 

The 3-day course is not online and has a focus on practical training.
