  • Understand and describe the performance rating of a fire door.
  • Understand and identify what is needed for a fire door rating to be maintained.
  • Identify the component parts of a fire door set.
  • Identify the third parties who provide existing Accepted Repair Techniques (ART’s) or best practice guides.
  • Explain how the component parts of a fire door set should be maintained.
  • Explain how to ensure the self-closing device of a fire door set is effective.
  • Explain how to maintain the overall performance of the fire door in terms of its resistance to the passage of fire and smoke.

Setting the industry standard

The framework for the course has been put together by passive fire safety experts, the Global HSE Group. Led by Ross O’Loughlin, the Director of Global Technical Services and previously the Chief of Staff of the fire training MOD school, and written by Nigel Craven, who was the Group Manager at West Yorkshire Fire Service.

4. Apply Knowledge and Certification

Partaking in a practical test, once completed gaining industry-recognised certification and becoming a suitably qualified experienced person in Understanding, Maintaining and Repairing Fire Doors.
