ROCKWOOL – Non-Combustible Insulation Systems, Installed with Full Compliance in Mind

External Wall Systems are Under Scrutiny

External wall construction is one of the most heavily scrutinised elements of a building.

Across the UK, façade systems continue to fail due to:

  • Incorrect material selection
  • Poor system design
  • Inadequate installation

The result is increased fire risk, non-compliance, and costly remediation.

Why ROCKWOOL

ROCKWOOL insulation is manufactured from stone wool, a non-combustible material designed to:

  • Resist fire and limit its spread
  • Improve thermal performance
  • Enhance acoustic insulation
  • Provide long-term durability

With over 80 years of development, ROCKWOOL systems are widely used across residential, commercial, and high-risk buildings where fire performance is critical.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ROCKWOOL insulation and how is it made?

ROCKWOOL insulation is a stone-based insulation. It is sourced from abundant lava deposits of volcanic rocks which are melted in a cupola furnace like a controlled man-made volcano. As the re-melted lava comes out of the furnace, it is spun, given water repellency treatment and bound together in a wool-like fleece.

ROCKWOOL insulation is a mineral wool, which is inorganic and ideal for thermal insulation, fire protection, acoustic control and environmental purposes. During the manufacturing process, ROCKWOOL insulation is cut, shaped and combined into many different products for a wide variety of applications including buildings, systems, services, marine and offshore.

Is it fire-resistant?

Yes, it is non-combustible and can withstand temperatures exceeding 1,000°C.

What is the difference between stone wool and other types of insulation?

ROCKWOOL stone wool is made from volcanic rock and achieves a European Reaction to Fire Classification of A1 – non combustible. Stone wool is also a durable choice; its properties and benefits don’t reduce or change over time and the product will effectively perform for 50 or more years.

What is the lifespan?

ROCKWOOL insulation is durable, won’t shrink or crumble, and is designed to last the lifetime of the building.

What happens if ROCKWOOL insulation gets wet?

ROCKWOOL insulation is moisture-resistant yet vapour-permeable. In the event the insulation becomes damp or wet, the insulation, when thoroughly dried, will maintain the original performance characteristics.

ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation does not absorb water, which means that any bulk water contacting the outer surface will drain and not be absorbed into the body of the insulation.
