ABBE Understanding and Installing Passive Fire Protection

A 3-day practical course, put together and taught by passive fire safety experts. You will get 1-1 feedback and the chance to use the tools of the trade. 

Aimed at those carrying out passive fire installation works on passive fire protection products, specifically fire stopping. Get hands on and understand the variety of fire stopping products on the market, how and when they should be used, and demonstrate how to install them correctly to the required standard.

Understanding and Installing Passive Fire Protection course will be taught by Chris Sharman Head of Technical and Training, alongside a skilled workforce who install passive fire protection daily.

  • Explain the importance of the substrate in ensuring compliance with the field of application.
  • Explain methods used to maintain the fire resistance of walls and floors penetrated by ventilation ducts.
  • Explain the considerations in the selection and installation of fire damper systems.
  • Describe the uses of ductwork.
  • Explain the considerations in relation to selection and installations of fire-resistant ducting​.
  • Explain how and why Health and Safety will be maintained within own work area when fitting passive fire protection.

Setting the industry standard

The framework for the course has been put together by passive fire safety experts, the Global HSE Group. Led by Ross O’Loughlin, the Director of Global Technical Services and previously the Chief of Staff of the fire training MOD school, and written by Nigel Craven, who was the Group Manager at West Yorkshire Fire Service.
